Accommodation and Food
As a volunteer you’ll most likely stay at the Empower a Child guest house in either Kampala (Uganda) or Nairobi (Kenya) with the exception of certain large groups.
Our guest houses are secure, westernised houses with electricity and WIFI, however it’s important to remember they’re in African cities. This means there may be times when there is no electricity in the house and on occasion no running water.
During village trips accommodation may range from a simple guest house to a mattress on the floor of a school, or camping in tents.
The typical Ugandan or Kenyan meal is meat or beans, mixed and fried with vegetables and poured over either rice, matooke (a boiled plantain) or posho (mixed cornmeal). Dinners range from the typical native meal to basic western meals such as spaghetti bolognese.
